MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

Mentorship

The Mentorship Program provides guidance and support for those entering the transportation industry for the first time. Navigating the challenges posed by large and small trucking companies, fluctuating fuel prices, insurance costs, overhead, and maintenance can be daunting, potentially leading to failure. That's where we come in to help you through the process.

First, we want to congratulate you on this new venture, but it's important to understand that the industry is more complex than it appears. A business mindset is crucial; you need to aware of cost per mile (CPM), rate per mile (RPM), and regularly review your profit and loss statement. Unfortunately, many owner-operators and small fleets overlook these key metrics, which lead to uncertainty about profitability.

Our is to shift your perspective from that of a truck driver to that of a business owner. You must think creatively, reduce costs, increase revenue, and scale your business effectively.

Government Contracts and Certifications

We assist minority, women, and veteran-owned businesses in obtaining the necessary certifications to compete for government contracts.

Government contracting involves an agreement between a government agency and a business for the provision of goods or services, or for the to carry out a task on behalf of the government. This process is vital for the government's operations and plays a significant in supporting the economy.

These contracts come with strict terms and conditions, including stipulations from the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). Key requirements often include regular reporting, a high level of accountability to government, strict adherence to terms, and timely delivery of services or products within budget.

Various types of government contracts exist, with specific rights and limitations. For instance, in a cost-plus, the government reimburses the contractor for all expenses plus an agreed profit margin, which mitigate risks for the contractor. The payment structure is typically outlined in the contract, with fixed-price and cost reimbursement being the most types.

While government contracting can be highly profitable, it often entails significant paperwork and bureaucratic processes. The U.S. government, as the largest customer globally, is mandated to small businesses for its purchases. In 2023, the federal government allocated $765 billion in contracts, with major agencies like the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Energy, and Health and Human Services among the largest recipients.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) collaborates with federal agencies to ensure small businesses secure a fair portion of government contracts. The government aims to allocate at least 23% of all federal contracting to small businesses and sets aside a specific percentage for those meeting certain socio-economic criteria. To qualify for these initiatives, small businesses must be certified under one of the four SBA programs designed for distinct groups, including minorities, veterans, and women.
