MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

Mentorship

The mentorship program offers assistance and direction when entering the transportation industry for the first time. With the competition of large and small trucking companies, fuel prices, insurance, overhead, and maintenance, you can be overwhelmed easliy and be put out of business. That is why we are here to help you navigate through the process.

First, we want to congratulate you on your new endeavor, but the trucking business is not as simple as it seems. You have to be business oriented. You need to know cost per mile (cpm), rate per mile (rpm), and review P/L statement weekly. This is very important. I speak to so many owner-operators and small fleets who do not keep up with this. It is unfortunate. You can be driving everyday and not knowing if you are making money or losing.

Our goal is to get you out of thinking like a truck driver, but as a business owner. You have to think outside the box, cut cost, grow in revenue, and scale your business.

Government Contracts and Certifications

We help minority, women, and veteran owned businesses obtain their certifications to be able compete for government contracts.

Government contracting is a process where a government agency and a business agree to a contract for the sale of goods or services, or for the business to perform a task for the government. The government needs these products and services to operate, and contracting helps to support the economy.

Government contracts are governed by strict terms and conditions, including clauses from the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). They usually require: Frequent reporting, High level of responsibility to the government, Strict compliance with the contract, and Providing deliverables on time and on budget.

There are many types of government contracts, each with their own rights and restrictions. For example, in a cost plus contract, the government pays the contractor for all expenses plus an agreed-upon profit margin. This type of contract can be less risky for the contractor. The contract arrangement also details how the business will be paid, with the two most common types being fixed-price and cost reimbursement.

Government contracting can be a lucrative opportunity for businesses, but it can also involve a lot of paperwork and red tape. The U.S. government is the world's largest customer and is required by law to consider buying from small businesses. In 2023, the U.S. federal government awarded $765 billion in contract awards, with some of the biggest federal agencies being the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Energy, and Health and Human Services.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) works with federal agencies to ensure that small businesses receive a fair share of government contracts. The government aims to award small businesses at least 23% of all federal contracting dollars, and also sets aside a percentage for small businesses that meet certain socio-economic conditions. To be eligible for these programs, small businesses must be certified for one of the four programs the SBA offers to different groups, including minorities, veterans, and women.
